Calchas

Also known as: Chalcas · Role: seer · First appears: Apollodorus, Library 3.13

🌐 Also appears in: The Iliad (as Calchas) · Greek Tragedy — The Same Myth, Three Voices (as Calchas)

Calchas, also known as Chalcas, declared that Troy could not be taken without Achilles. Among the Greeks, he prophesied that victory required the bow and arrows of Heracles, prompting Odysseus to go with Diomedes to Philoctetes in Lemnos.

Afterward, Calchas left his ships in Ilium and journeyed by land to Colophon with Amphilochus, Leonteus, Podalirius, and Polypoetes. There, Mopsus wrangled with him about the art of divination.
