Callirrhoe

Family: Greek mythology · Role: nymph · First appears: Apollodorus, Library 2.5

Callirrhoe is a nymph of Greek mythology, described as a daughter of Ocean. Chrysaor was joined to her in love—“But Chrysaor was joined in love to Callirrhoe, the daughter of glorious Ocean”—and they had Geryon. Later, at the springs of Achelous, Achelous purified Alcmaeon, who married Callirrhoe and settled with her on land newly formed by the river’s silt. Their sons were Amphoterus and Acarnan.

After Alcmaeon’s untimely death, Zeus courted Callirrhoe, and she requested that her sons by Alcmaeon become full grown. In another account, Tros married Callirrhoe, daughter of Scamander, and they had Cleopatra, Ilus, Assaracus, and Ganymede.
