Lysimachus
Family: Athens · Role: father of Aristides · First appears: Themistocles
Lysimachus was the father of Aristides, “the son of Lysimachus,” and of Agathocles. He also served as Alexander’s pedagogue, taking “the actual place and style of his pedagogue.”
At Macedon, Pyrrhus’s soldiers defected, forcing Pyrrhus to withdraw and relinquish Macedon. Lysimachus was a rival of Pyrrhus and the greatest enemy of Demetrius Poliorcetes among the kings of his time; he was a patron of Philippides, through whom the Athenians received kindnesses, and was taken prisoner by Dromichaetes, who treated him with humanity and a kingly temper.
