The Danish History, Books I–IX

Biorn (champion of Fridleif)

Also known as: Biorn · Role: brother and leader among the robbers · First appears: Book Six · Part 1

In Book Six · Part 1, Biorn was among the twelve Norwegian brothers whose raids alarmed Halfdan (son of Erik); after their allies deserted them, the brothers fortified an island and continued raiding. In Book Six · Part 2, Fridleif (son of Frode) attacked them, killing the others but sparing Biorn, tending his wounds and making him his colleague under a solemn oath.

In Book Six · Part 3, Biorn sailed around Norway with Fridleif and Halfdan after they learned that envoys had been killed, while Amund put out his fleet. In Book Six · Part 4, Biorn sent his hound against the enemy when his own ranks gave way, routing some warriors; when Ane challenged Fridleif, Biorn fought him instead. The two were wounded and fought again at Agdar Ness. In Book Six · Part 5, Fridleif reconciled them, turning their hatred into friendship, and entrusted his three-year-old son Olaf (son of Fridleif) to Biorn and Ane to raise.
