the young man (Tale 26)
Role: the woman's husband · First appears: Tale 26 · The Elk Rescues a Woman from the Bear
At the village, the poor young man, who had no ponies or relatives, and the chief’s daughter fell in love and planned to run away together. They rode into the wild country and made a home there, and he thought a great deal of his wife. One time, a Bear took her to its den; the young man searched for her until, at last, Elk found him along the timber and agreed to help.
Elk taught him to transform into an elk and gave him a whistle to summon female elk. At the den, the young man rescued his wife and the other captive women, and he and Elk (Tale 26) killed the Bear as it attacked them.
