Sun-father

Role: the Sun, whom the people hold to be their father · First appears: Section 5 · The Birth from the Sea of the Twain Deliverers of Men

In Section 1, Áwonawílona made himself in the form of the Sun, whose appearance brought light. The Sun-father impregnated the great waters, and the scums that rose became Earth-mother and Sky-father.

In Section 5, the Sun-father impregnated Foam-cap, who gave birth to the Twain: first Áhaiyuta, then Mátsailema. He imparted his knowledge to them, gave them weapons and a shield, and granted them dominion over men and creatures. In Section 44, the Twain sang of the weapons the Sun-father gave them and the Foam-mother made. In Section 46, they sought his counsel, and he revealed the Demoness’s life-secret and the mountain dwellers’ power over the under-fires.
