God

Also known as: Lord / Lord of the world / the Divine / the Holy One / the Holy One, blessed be He / the Lord / the stern God of his fathers · Family: Divine · Role: God · First appears: JACOB'S LAST WISH

God’s covenants linked Jacob and Abraham to the promised land and the preservation of their descendants. After the Ishmaelites mistreated Joseph, God sent a storm that halted their caravan, then calmed it when Joseph prayed. God later told Jacob not to fear going to Egypt, promised to go with him, and commanded him to remain there. After Jacob blessed Pharaoh (Joseph's), God caused the Nile to rise and nourish Egypt; God also granted Jacob’s request that death be preceded by sickness.

God’s dealings with Job included extraordinary prosperity, permission for Satan to afflict him, and restoration after his suffering. Job’s sacrifice for his friends was accepted, and God blessed him with wealth twice what he had before. God also created Adam, Af and Hemah, and had sworn to Noah never again to destroy the world by water.

In Egypt, God protected Moses and brought him up to lead the Israelites out of bondage. God gave Moses the Torah, disclosed His name to him, and promised, “Through thee My children will be brought forth out of Egypt.” As Pharaoh refused to release the Israelites, God brought the plagues upon Egypt, culminating in the death of the first-born; during the Exodus, God struck the Egyptian first-born and protected the Israelite first-born.
