John Neville
Also known as: Iohn Neuill / lord Montacute / marques Montacute / sir Iohn Neuill · Family: England · Role: captain · First appears: Henry V 25
In the time of Henry V, John Neville gave fealty to the king at Vernueil in Perch. John was the son of Richard Neville, Earl of Salisbury and Alice Montagu, Countess of Salisbury, and his siblings included Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick, George Neville, and Thomas Neville.
Around 1458, John and his family were involved in the dispute with Thomas Percy, Lord Egremont and Richard Percy, after which Richard Neville, Earl of Salisbury and his sons released the Percy brothers from their monetary condemnations. Around 1459 at Chester, John and Thomas Neville were sorely wounded, captured with Thomas Harington, and released soon afterward.
Around 1460 at Coventry, Henry VI’s parliament attainted John, Thomas Neville, and their allies, confiscating their goods and possessions. Under Edward IV, John showed fealty to the king; Edward first made him lord Montacute and later created him marquess Montacute.
