Hippodamia

Family: mythological figures · Role: daughter of Œnomaus · First appears: Book 5 · Chapter 11

Pelops offered a myrtle statue to Aphrodite at Temnus before seeking her help to marry Hippodamia. At Olympia, her father, Œnomaus, proposed a horse-race for her suitors. After marrying Pelops, Hippodamia selected 16 matrons and, with them, inaugurated games in gratitude to Hera.

Later, Hippodamia fled to Midea when Pelops was angry with her over the death of Chrysippus. According to an oracle, her remains were afterwards placed at Olympia.
