Gods and Fighting Men

Aine

Also known as: Leanan Sidhe · Family: Tuatha de Danaan · Role: goddess · First appears: The Gods · The Ever-living Living Ones · Aine

Aine of the Sidhe was said by some to be Manannan’s daughter, though others said she was the Morrigu. One time, Oilioll Oluim killed her brother; in revenge, Aine bit off the ear of Oiliol, Oilioll’s son. Her revenge was fulfilled when Oilioll and his seven sons were killed at Magh Mucruimhe.

At Luimnech, Aine enchanted a great yew-tree beside the river Maigh and placed inside it a little man playing sweet music on a harp. One time, a dispute arose between Aine and her sister Aoife (daughter of Manannan), also a daughter of Manannan: each upheld the hurling skill of the man she loved. Their disagreement led to a great match between the Men of Dea and the Fianna near Loch Lein.
