Pausanias' Description of Greece

Myro

Also known as: the Athenian Myro · Family: Athens · Role: sculptor · First appears: Book 2 · Chapter 8

In Book 2, Chapter 8, Myro is named as the parent of Aristonymus, whose son Clisthenes was king of the Sicyonians. By Book 6, Myro is identified as an Athenian sculptor: his works at Olympia include statues of Lycinus, Timanthes of Cleonæ, and Philip, son of Azan. In Book 6, Chapter 13, a statue on a pillar is attributed to Myro rather than Chionis.

In Book 9, Chapter 5, Myro is also described as a Byzantian poetess who wrote epic and elegiac verses, and whose account says Amphion first erected an altar to Hermes and received a lyre from him there. In Book 9, Chapter 30, Myro is credited with an upright statue of Dionysus, dedicated by Sulla, described as his next-best work after the Erechtheus at Athens.
