Ebedmelech
Also known as: Ebedmelech the Ethiopian · Family: Ethiopia · Role: eunuch in the king's house · First appears: Jeremiah 38
In Jeremiah 38, Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs in Zedekiah’s house, told Zedekiah that the men who had cast Jeremiah into the dungeon had done evil and that Jeremiah was near death from hunger. Zedekiah then commanded Ebedmelech to take thirty men and remove Jeremiah from the dungeon before he died. Ebedmelech and his men pulled Jeremiah up with cords from the mire, and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
In Jeremiah 39, God promised to deliver Ebedmelech from the men he feared and not give him into their hands.
