the young man (A Story Of Faith)

Family: Kit-Ke-Hahk´-I Band · Role: doctor · First appears: A Story Of Faith · Part 1

At his father’s request, the young man refused to marry, while his father and mother let him alone rather than interfere. His influence grew enough to concern the great doctor, who poisoned him, leaving him ill. Instead of joining the tribe’s hunt, he rode east from the empty village; after praying, he killed his horse and offered it to the animals. On the fourth night at Pa-huk, a great elk said it had heard of his condition and would take him to the animal homes for help.

In Part 3, ground dogs and bears ate away his swelling while he was unconscious. He later regained consciousness, found himself cured, and stayed with the Nahúrac, who taught him their ways and animal secrets. Long mourned as dead, he returned home at night and told his father, “Wake up, I am here.” A few days later, he visited the doctor who had caused his illness and killed him through the river, keeping his promise to the Nahúrac.
