Nûñ'yunu'wi
Also known as: Dressed in Stone · Role: cannibal monster · First appears: Myth 67 · Nûñ'yunu'wi, the Stone Man
In Myth 67, the hunter reported an old man to the medicine-man, who identified him as Nûñ'yunu'wi, “Dressed in Stone,” a cannibal monster. Soon after encountering the women, Nûñ'yunu'wi vomited blood, weakened, and fell on the trail.
When night came, the medicine-man pinned him to the ground with seven sourwood stakes, and the people piled logs over him and set them alight. As the fire approached, Nûñ'yunu'wi revealed medicines for sickness and sang hunting songs; his voice then fell silent. When daylight came, his body was gone, leaving red paint and a magic stone.
