Machaon
Family: Messenians · Role: father of Alexanor · First appears: Book 2 · Chapter 11
In Book 2, Chapter 11, Alexanor, son of Machaon and Æsculapius, came to Sicyon and built a temple to Æsculapius at Titane. Machaon was also the father of Sphyrus and Polemocrates, brothers of Alexanor, and of Nicomachus and Gorgasus.
In Book 3, Chapter 26, the Little Iliad says that Eurypylus (son of Telephus) killed Machaon at Gerenia; tradition says Nestor recovered his bones. His connection with Gerenia is also recalled in Book 4, Chapter 3, where Glaucus is said to have been the first to sacrifice to Machaon there.
