The Danish History, Books I–IX

Iwar

Family: Danes · Role: son of Ragnar · First appears: Book Nine · Part 2

In Book Nine · Part 2, Iwar is named among the sons Ragnar Lodbrog had with Thora (daughter of Herodd), alongside Radbard (son of Ragnar), Dunwat, Siward Snake-Eye, Biorn Ironsides, and Agnar (son of Ragnar). In Book Nine · Part 7, after the rebellion in his country was quelled, Iwar went to Denmark, where Ragnar received him with great honour and placed his kingdom in Iwar’s charge.

In Book Nine · Part 8, Iwar was expelled from the kingdom. After Ragnar’s death, in Book Nine · Part 9, Iwar went to England and obtained land from Ella by asking for as much as a horse’s hide could cover. He founded a city there, stocked it for a siege, and governed England for two years. When Biorn and Erik Wind-hat went home, Iwar and Siward settled in Denmark and set Agnar to govern England.
