Jaazaniah

As a Rechabite, Jaazaniah belonged to the descendants of Jonadab, who commanded them, “Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever.” In Jeremiah 35 at Jerusalem, Jeremiah brought Jaazaniah, identified as the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habaziniah, together with his brethren, sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites, and set wine before them. They refused, affirming, “We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us.”

In Ezekiel 8 at Jerusalem, Jaazaniah, identified as the son of Shaphan, stood among Israel’s elders, each holding a censer, as they burned incense before images and idols. In Ezekiel 11, Jaazaniah was identified as the son of Azur and counted among the princes of the people; God judged the men there as those who devised mischief and gave wicked counsel in the city.
