Cuthwin

In 577, Cuthwin fought alongside Ceawlin against the Britons at Derham, where they slew the kings Commail, Condida and Farinmail. The account records: “This year Cuthwin and Ceawlin fought with the Britons, and slew three kings, Commail, and Condida, and Farinmail, on the spot that is called Derham”

Cuthwin was the son of Ceawlin and the father of Ceolwald and Cynegils. Later genealogies name Leodwald as his father and trace Cutha to him; another line traces Cynebald to Cuthwin and identifies him as an ancestor of Oswald.
