Kwofi
First appears: Tale 23 · Kwofi and the Gods
In Tale 23 · Kwofi and the Gods, Kwofi was the eldest son of a farmer and Kwofi’s mother, who had no other children. His mother died when he was three, and he was given to his stepmother to mind. When he was about ten, his father also died, leaving him with no relative but his stepmother, for whom he had to work; as Kwofi grew older, she became jealous of him.
One evening, a god spared Kwofi when everyone else in the village died, saying, “Oh, my son Kwofi, there was never sufficient meat for you, neither is there any death.” Kwofi was left to reign there in peace.
