Ashpenaz

Family: Babylon · Role: master of the eunuchs · First appears: Daniel 1

In Daniel 1, Ashpenaz, the Babylonian master of the eunuchs, received Nebuchadnezzar’s command to bring certain Israelite royal and princely children: “And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;” He assigned Babylonian names to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah—Belteshazzar, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

At the end of the appointed days, Ashpenaz brought the four youths before Nebuchadnezzar, and they entered the king’s service. Melzar was set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah by Ashpenaz, while God brought Daniel into favour and tender love with him.
