Rehua

Also known as: the God of Food · Role: ancestor and ariki · First appears: Chapter II · The Creation of Hawaiki

In Chapter II · The Creation of Hawaiki, Rangi made Papa-tu-a-nuku his wife, and their first son was Rehua. In Chapter V · The Chant of Rangi-nui, Rehua stamped on the bottom of the third heaven, breaking it and sending its waters down upon the earth as a Deluge. There, he was the God of Food and ariki over the gods, and won many victories over Maru: spirits of slain heroes who were heading to Maru’s heavens to become stars instead followed Rehua.
