First Man

In Origin Legend I: The Story of the Emergence · Part 3, the gods directed First Man and First Woman to live as husband and wife. After the last pair of twins was born, the gods took them to the eastern mountain and kept them there for four days. Their children included the hermaphrodite twins and a boy and a girl.

In Part 4, First Man’s descendants made a farm, dam, and irrigating ditch. After a quarrel with First Woman, he called the men together the next morning and proposed leaving the women and taking the Kisáni with them. He ordered the hermaphrodites to bring their belongings and join the men; the men and hermaphrodites crossed the river, leaving the women behind. In Origin Legend II: Early Events in the Fifth World · Part 1, he accused Coyote of carrying stolen property under his robe, and the people tore it off. After the Kisáni moved away, First Man and First Woman set out with Black Body and Blue Body to build the seven sacred mountains of the present Navaho land.
