Le Morte d'Arthur

Leodegrance

Also known as: King Leodegrance / King Leodegrance of Cameliard · Family: Cameliard · Role: king · First appears: Book I, Chapter XVII

As king of Cameliard, Leodegrance was at war with King Rience, who made great war on him and laid siege to his kingdom. King Arthur, who loved Leodegrance and hated King Rience, came with King Ban and Sir Bors to rescue him; they defeated much of Rience’s force, put him to flight, and received Leodegrance’s thanks for revenging his enemies.

In Book III, Chapter I, Merlin brought King Arthur’s request to marry Leodegrance’s daughter, Queen Guenever. Leodegrance welcomed the proposal as “the best tidings that ever I heard,” then delivered Queen Guenever to Merlin for the journey and gave King Arthur the Round Table with its hundred knights, which Uther Pendragon had given him.
