Dinewan (Tale 1)

Also known as: Dinewan the emu / the Dinewan mother · Role: emu; acknowledged as king by the other birds · First appears: Tale 1 · Dinewan The Emu, And Goomblegubbon The Bustard

Dinewan was acknowledged as king by the other birds. In Tale 1, Goomblegubbon was jealous of her, while Dinewan and her mate were disturbed by the situation; Goomblegubbon knew that an open fight with a Dinewan offered no chance of success.

At length, Dinewan and her mate sacrificed their wings to preserve their kingship. Dinewan persuaded her mate to cut off hers with a stone tomahawk, then cut off his wings herself.
