Ksheman·kara
Also known as: Prince Ksheman·kara · Role: prince · First appears: Chapter XVIII
After The king and The king’s wife had a son, Ksheman·kara, he refused marriage until he had acquired wealth and received permission to go to sea. On the return voyage, Pāpan·kara stole his jewels, blinded him, and abandoned him on the shore.
Oxherds brought Ksheman·kara to The chief herdsman’s household. When The chief herdsman’s wife falsely accused him of trying to tempt her, he left. The next morning, The daughter of the king of the neighbouring country chose him as her husband. Her affirmation of fidelity restored one of his eyes; Ksheman·kara’s affirmation that he bore no malice toward Pāpan·kara restored the other.
The king of the neighbouring country gave his daughter to Ksheman·kara as his wife, then drove Pāpan·kara from power and installed Ksheman·kara on his father’s throne.
