Quarcoo Bah-boni

Role: boy · First appears: Tale 29 · Quarcoo Bah-Boni

In Tale 29, while the woman’s husband was away hunting, she gave birth to a son. When the baby was a week old, he answered that his name was Quarcoo Bah-boni; the next day, he announced he would go to the farm and did so. After his mischievous tricks became too much for his mother, she turned him out and forbade him to return.

Quarcoo asked Goat, Wolf, Tiger, Lion and Elephant to let him stay as their servant, and they agreed. When Goat struck him, Quarcoo beat him until he promised to finish the work, carry the load and tell no one. He punished Wolf and the other animals in turn when they went to the farm, leaving them bruised and swollen.

The animals decided to leave Quarcoo behind and prepared a basket of food. At dawn, he hid inside it; when Goat and Wolf opened the basket, he struck them and ordered them to keep quiet. When Quarcoo appeared before the animals, they fled in different directions.
