Friquet
Also known as: Master Friquet · Family: Fronde · Role: chorister and tavern waiter · First appears: Chapter 7
At Noisy, Friquet told D’Artagnan that Bazin had gone there: “He is gone to Noisy.” D’Artagnan wrote down his name, and Friquet asked whether he might earn more half-pistoles. By chapter 27, Bazin patronized him, while D’Artagnan valued the information he provided. In chapter 44, Friquet feigned a swollen face with cherry kernels so he could dress in his Sunday clothes and obtain a holiday from Bazin; Dame Nanette was told to give her son apricots and fresh bread.
At the Rue Saint Honoré, Friquet owned a pistol and sword given to him by Louvières, and had organized a company of rogues. During the fighting, he and his band preceded the retreating Maréchal de la Meilleraie and his surviving troops after the barricade opened. At the tower Saint Jacques la Boucherie, Monsieur Maillard made Friquet his heir, giving him a leather bag full of gold: “The mendicant had kept his word and made Friquet his heir.” Mother Nanette picked up both the louis and Friquet, while Friquet spoke to Bazin about Monsieur Maillard.
