The Peloponnesian War

Thrasyllus

Family: Athenian · Role: leader in the revolution · First appears: Book 8 · Chapter 25 · Part 5

At Samos, Thrasyllus joined Leon, Diomedon and Thrasybulus in rallying soldiers against the oligarchic conspirators. After the Samian commons defeated the Three Hundred and restored democracy, Thrasyllus and Thrasybulus bound the soldiers and adult Samians by oath to support democratic government, fight the Peloponnesians and oppose the Four Hundred. The soldiers then chose new generals and captains alongside them.

At the sea-fight near Point Cynossema, Thrasyllus commanded the Athenian left, opposite Mindarus on the Peloponnesian side. The Athenians defeated the Peloponnesian fleet, captured enemy ships and set up a victory trophy; afterward, they recovered Cyzicus and levied money from its citizens.
