Androgeus
Family: Britons · Role: prince · First appears: Book III 19–20
Androgeus was one of Lud’s two sons and the brother of Tenuantius. After Lud’s death, the brothers were too young to govern, so their uncle Cassibellaun became king and held sovereignty over them. Once crowned, Cassibellaun granted Androgeus Trinovantum and the dukedom of Kent.
At Trinovantum, Androgeus claimed jurisdiction over Evelinus in his own court. When Cassibellaun threatened to destroy his country unless he surrendered Evelinus, then invaded and ravaged his provinces, Androgeus sought help from Julius Caesar, despite having earlier acted against him. He sent his son Scaeva with thirty noblemen as hostages to secure Caesar’s arrival, then attacked Cassibellaun’s rear at Dorobernia, helping bring about peace and a yearly tribute to Caesar. After seven years, Tenuantius succeeded Cassibellaun, while Androgeus had gone to Rome with Julius Caesar.
