In the Egerton version of The Courtship of Etain, Messbuachalla is Etain’s daughter and becomes the mother of Conary the Great, son of Eterscel. In the Leabhar na h-Uidhri version, when Eochaid’s armies dig to the borders of the fairy mansion, Mider’s lookalikes deceive him and he chooses Messbuachalla instead of Etain; that account calls her Etain’s daughter, while the Egerton account names her mother as Etain, the daughter of Eochaid Airemm.
