Yashvin
Also known as: Captain Yashvin / Prince Yashvin · Family: regiment · Role: captain · First appears: PART TWO · Chapter 19
At the races at Krasnoe Selo, Yashvin’s friendship with Vronsky was shown in a heavy bet on him. After Vronsky’s disastrous race, Yashvin overtook him, led him home, and stayed with him until he regained his self-possession. In Petritsky’s company he called for brandy and cucumbers, while with Venovsky he insisted on paying for a game that Vronsky had not played.
Later, Yashvin was asked to look after Vronsky. He liked Anna very much, though his bashfulness seemed out of keeping with his immense frame and coarse face; she recalled meeting him at the races. He and Vronsky then went down to his rooms after Yashvin went to smoke. By chapter 214, Yashvin had won about sixty thousand from Pyevtsov, with repayment uncertain, and he had meant to come with Voytov. At Servia, he persuaded Vronsky to go there, giving him a new interest.
