Sualtaim
Also known as: Suallaith · Family: Ulstermen · Role: Cuchulainn's father · First appears: This is the Story in Order · Part 1
In “This is the Story in Order · Part 1,” Sualtaim is identified as Cuchulainn’s father. In “This is the Long Warning of Sualtaim,” while the events already related were taking place, he heard from Rath Sualtaim in Mag Murthemne that Cuchulainn was fighting twelve sons of Gaile Dana and his sister’s son. Sualtaim went to Cuchulainn, who urged him to go to the Ulstermen and ask them to give battle.
At Emain, Sualtaim warned the Ulstermen that men were being slain, women carried off, and cattle driven away. Conchobar confirmed Sualtaim’s report, saying Cuchulainn had been in the foray from the Monday night of Samain to the Monday night of Candlemas. Sualtaim then fell on his shield, and its engraved edge cut off his head.
