Julius
Family: Roman · Role: centurion · First appears: Acts 27
Julius is a Roman centurion of Augustus’ band who takes custody of Paul and other prisoners when they begin the voyage to Italy. At Sidon, he courteously grants Paul permission to visit his friends and refresh himself.
When the ship runs aground and breaks apart in the waves, Julius prevents the soldiers from killing the prisoners, “willing to save Paul,” and orders those who can swim to make for shore. Everyone escapes safely to land, including Paul and Aristarchus.
