Beowulf

Thryth

First appears: Section XXVII

In the digression in Section XXVII, the poem tells that before she went as a bride, Thryth had men who dared look her in the face seized and condemned to death. At her father’s bidding, she then went to Offa’s hall as a bride and became queen, “rich in goods”; after marrying Offa, she wrought fewer folk-horrors.
