Nadcrantail
Family: Connaught · Role: warrior · First appears: The Death of Nadcrantail
In “The Death of Nadcrantail,” Nadcrantail demanded that Findabair be given to him before he would fight: “I will not go,” he said, “unless Findabair be given to me.” The next morning, he went from the camp with nine sharpened holly spears and threw them at Cuchulainn, who evaded them while catching birds.
Cuchulainn’s spear came down through Nadcrantail’s crown to the ground. Nadcrantail asked leave to tell his sons where his hidden treasures were, then return to be beheaded. He returned and threw his sword at Cuchulainn; after Cuchulainn leapt clear and the sword broke against a pillar, Cuchulainn struck off Nadcrantail’s head and cut his body down to the navel.
