About 1431, at Beauvois, Poton was captured and exchanged without delay for John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, who had been taken at the battle of Patay. In c. 1432 at Laignie, Saintreiles, Poton’s brother, was killed in a skirmish during a relief attempt, alongside Captain John and fifty other noble and valiant men. By c. 1436, Poton had acquired Gisours after twelve burgesses sold the town to him for money.
