Shem
Role: teacher of Jacob · First appears: The Favorite Son
Shem taught Jacob, along with Eber, and Jacob later passed the instruction he had received from them to Joseph. The holy Hebrew language remained in the houses of Shem and Eber and their descendant Abraham; Eber was Shem’s descendant.
Shem was the father of Aram, whose daughter Tamar married Er, and was also described as Tamar’s father and as a high priest. Shem was a child of Noah and a sibling of Japheth; the material says Ham and his descendants were given as slaves to the children of Shem and Japheth.
