Xuthus
Role: man · First appears: Book 1 · Chapter 31
In Book 1, Ion, Xuthus’s son, commanded the Athenians in their war against the Eleusinians and received a tomb at Potami. In Book 7, after Hellen’s death, Hellen’s sons expelled Xuthus from Thessaly, accusing him of taking their father’s money.
After the death of Erechtheus, Xuthus was chosen to decide which of his sons should be king. He favored Cecrops the younger’s elder brother, and Erechtheus’s other sons drove him out of the country. Xuthus fled to Athens, married Erechtheus’s daughter, and had two sons, Achæus and Ion. Bura, daughter of Ion and Helice, gave her name to the town of Bura.
