Charillus
Family: Lacedæmonian · Role: ancestor of Nicander · First appears: Book 2 · Chapter 36
Charillus was the son of Polydectes and the father of Nicander, whose lineage is given in the account of the Lacedæmonians’ invasion of Argolis in Book 2. In Book 3, he assisted Archelaus against Ægys.
During the Laconian war at Tegea, Charillus was captured and released without ransom after swearing that he would never again lead a Lacedæmonian army there. He later broke that oath; in the fighting, Marpessa was named among those whose actions brought about the Lacedæmonians’ rout.
