Archbishop Anselm
Also known as: Anselm / Archbishop Anselm of Canterbury · Role: Abbot of Bec; archbishop of Canterbury · First appears: A.D. 1091–1093
In 1093, during Lent at Glocester, William son of William transferred the archbishopric of Canterbury to Anselm, formerly Abbot of Bec. In 1095, at Canterbury on Pentecost, Bishop Walter, on behalf of Pope Urban, gave Anselm his pall, which he received at his archiepiscopal stall.
In 1097, Anselm obtained leave from William son of William and went overseas. He returned before Michaelmas in 1100, sent for by King Henry because of the wrongs William had done him. At Martinmas, Anselm wedded Maud to Henry and consecrated her queen. In 1115, Abbot Anselm, his nephew, brought something from Rome.
