Eliezer
Family: Abraham's family · Role: servant · First appears: The Flood
Eliezer entered Abraham’s household as a slave, one of two whom the king gave Abraham. When Abraham faced the king’s bailiffs, Eliezer hurried to warn him to flee. At Sodom, after a man struck Eliezer’s forehead with a stone, Eliezer threw a stone at Judge Shakkara’s forehead and demanded that the judge pay the stranger’s debt and give him the balance. On the journey to Moriah, he and Ishmael stayed with the ass while Abraham and Isaac went on.
Eliezer swore to Abraham concerning his mission to woo Rebekah. As he told his story, Bethuel ate the poisoned dish intended for Eliezer and died; Rebekah chose to leave with him, and her mother and Laban sent her off with their blessings. In recognition of the mission’s success, Abraham set Eliezer free. Later, Damesek and Alinus are identified as Eliezer’s sons; Abraham is described as the teacher of disciples who called themselves by his name.
