P. Crassus

Also known as: Crassus · Family: Roman · Role: legate · First appears: The Gallic War, Book II, 28–35

In Book II of the Gallic War, Caesar reports that P. Crassus, whom he had sent with one legion against the maritime states, informed him that they had been brought under Roman rule. In Book III, P. Crassus wintered with the seventh legion among the Andes. With provisions scarce, he sent officers to neighbouring states: T. Terrasidius to the Esubii, M. Trebius Gallus to the Curiosolitae, and Q. Velanius and T. Silius to the Veneti.

After informing Caesar of the revolt, P. Crassus was ordered to Aquitania with twelve cohorts and cavalry to prevent its states from sending auxiliaries into Gaul. In the campaign there, he appointed a day for battle after consulting his council, attacked the enemy camp, and his forces defeated the enemy. When Adcantuannus was driven back into the town after attempting a sally, P. Crassus granted him the same surrender terms as the other inhabitants; most of Aquitania then surrendered and sent hostages.
