Tárá
Also known as: Queen Tárá · Family: Vánars · Role: queen · First appears: Book IV, Canto 11 · Dundubhi
In Book IV, Tárá is married to Báli and is the mother of Angad. When Báli dies, she falls beside his body; later, she and Sugríva join Angad and the Vánar chieftains in offering water to his departed shade. In Canto 22, Báli is described as calling her “Child of Susheṇ,” identifying Susheṇ as her parent.
In Book IV, Sugríva takes Tárá as a bride. After he is restored to Rumá and Tárá, she pleads with Lakshmaṇ, and her “just and mild” words soften his heart. She also works to carry out Sugríva’s will. In Book VI, Ráma grants Sugríva Tárá, a glistering chain, and his kingly place.
