King Prasenajit of Kośala
Also known as: Prasenajit · Family: Kośala · Role: king · First appears: Chapter VII
In Chapter XIII, Prasenajit was born in Śrāvastī to King Aranemi Brahmadatta. By Chapter VII, he was king of Kośala; after eating rice sent by Viśākhā, he recovered. He consulted his grandmother about calling Viśākhā his sister, since she had cared for him, and approved her being called Mṛgadhara’s mother as well. He publicly proclaimed her both Mṛgadhara’s mother and his own sister.
In Chapter VII, Prasenajit pardoned Śrīvardhana, his elephant overseer, and restored him to his position. Later, he sent Viśākhā’s thirty-two sons with an army against the hillmen; after they returned with hostages and tribute, he poisoned them at a palace meal and ordered their heads cut off.
