Cneius Piso
Also known as: Piso · Family: Roman · Role: conspirator · First appears: Julius Caesar 9
Cneius Piso was an enemy of Julius Caesar and was associated with a conspiracy involving him. After suspicions that mischief was being planned in Rome, Spain was decreed to Piso outside the regular course: “the province of Spain was decreed out of the regular course.” The planned design was frustrated by Piso’s death.
Later, in Syria, Piso served as Tiberius’s lieutenant and was believed to have carried out the murder of Germanicus on Tiberius’s behalf. He was afterwards tried for Germanicus’s murder and condemned to death by the senate. Publius Vitellius (younger), an intimate friend and companion of Germanicus, prosecuted Piso and secured a sentence against him.
