Earth
Also known as: Mother of All / Mother of the gods · Role: goddess · First appears: The Catalogues of Women and Eoiae · Fragments 21–40
In The War of the Titans, Earth and Heaven united and produced three hundred-handed sons and three Cyclopes. In the same account, Aegaeon was born to Earth and Sea.
In The Catalogues of Women and Eoiae, Earth bore peoples to Epaphus, including Aethiopians, Libyans and mare-milking Scythians, described as knowing seercraft by Zeus’s will. The Homeric Hymn to Earth calls her “wife of starry Heaven,” while the hymn to Helios names Hyperion as “the Son of Earth and starry Heaven.”
