In Runo XIV, Tuoni’s bloodstained son strikes and kills Lemminkainen. In Runo XVI, Väinämöinen calls on Tuoni’s daughter to row him across the river, while Tuoni’s son spreads nets.

In Runo XLV, Loviatar is named as one of Tuoni’s daughters, and Kiputyttö as Tuoni’s maiden. At Kalevala, Väinämöinen goes to war with Tuoni and struggles against disease.
