Pausanias' Description of Greece

Tennes

Role: son of Cycnus · First appears: Book 10 · Chapter 14

Tennes was the son of Cycnus and Proclea, and the brother of Hemithea. In Book 10, Chapter 14, Phylonome, after failing to win his love, falsely accused him of illicit advances; Cycnus believed her and sent Tennes and Hemithea to sea in a chest.

They survived and reached Leucophrys, later called Tenedos. When Cycnus learned the truth and sailed after Tennes to ask forgiveness, Tennes refused to hear him and cut the mooring ropes with his axe. Afterwards, Achilles killed Tennes while he was defending Tenedos.
