The Prophets

Coniah

Family: Judah · Role: king of Judah · First appears: Jeremiah 22

In Jeremiah 22, Coniah is identified as the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah. God judged him, declaring, “Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days,” and decreeing that none of his seed would prosper on David’s throne or rule again in Judah.

God also cast Coniah and his mother into another country, where they would die, and gave him into the hands of Nebuchadrezzar and the Chaldeans. In Jeremiah 37, Zedekiah reigned instead of Coniah, whom Nebuchadrezzar had made king in the land of Judah.
