the Indian maiden (Chapter 003)
Family: Seneca · Role: maiden · First appears: A Seneca Legend Of Hi-Nuⁿ And Niagara
At Niagara, the Seneca maiden fled in her canoe rather than marry the hideous old Indian, pushing out onto the roaring waters. As her canoe dashed toward the rocks below a cave behind the falls, Hi-nuⁿ spread his wings and rescued her.
She stayed for many weeks in Hi-nuⁿ’s cave, where he taught her why sickness afflicted her people. She then taught her tribe what she had learned and persuaded them to leave their settlement and move nearer the lake.
